Lent is a time for prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Jesus began his public ministry in Nazareth by reading from the scroll from the prophet Isaiah “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, and to let the oppressed go free.” (Lk 4:18).
The 2008 Lenten Project this year will focus on “Domestic and World Hunger”. There are many factors that contribute to the root causes of hunger (852 million people). Each week there will be a theme that speaks about hunger here and abroad. On the Lenten Calendar, there are activities in which our families can be in solidarity with the hungry in our world and at the same time educate ourselves on the root causes of hunger. The Parish Social Ministry Corner each week in the bulletin will delve a little deeper on these root causes.
