It is with great anticipation and excitement that we launch our capital campaign with its theme Building on our Foundation for the Future. This is the first campaign in the relatively short history of our parish community. As you know we were established as a parish in 1997 with just 67 registered families meeting for Sunday Mass in the cafeteria of Berkman Elementary School. Seventeen years later we have grown once again to almost 1200 registered families. I wonder if those first parishioners could have foreseen the growth of the city of Round Rock as well as our parish community. During this time many good and faithful parishioners have constantly met the challenge to provide the best for liturgy, prayer, education and social outreach.
Almost two years ago we received a great blessing from God when adjoining property became available for purchase. I knew immediately that this would be a great benefit to meet the needs of our growing community. But how could we afford it? It was because of his belief in this parish community and its need to keep growing, that Bishop Vasquez decided to purchase the property immediately. But as we all know, when we receive we must also give and so this opportunity of having a capital campaign will not only enable us to repay the cost of purchasing the land and the buildings, but also to adapt them and finish them out for the needs of our parish.
As your pastor, I invite you to discern how best you are able to support this capital campaign. As many of you know, the facilities are already part of the daily life of St. John Vianney Parish and many of you have so warmly expressed how blessed we are to have them.
In recent months we undertook a feasibility study and your response was overwhelmingly in favor of having a capital campaign and also your willingness to be part of it. Now the time has come to act and move forward. Parish leaders have been identified and are already hard at work. Please join me and them in making this campaign a success.
As your pastor I am also a fellow parishioner, and I needed to make a sacrificial pledge myself and I am asking you to prayerfully consider doing the same according to your means. We will be making our pledges between June and September and they will last for a three year period. This is a wonderful parish and faith community and I assure you that I am very fortunate to be your Pastor. I know that you will do whatever you can to make this campaign a success.
We entrust this campaign to the intercession of Our Blessed Mother and our patron St John Vianney.
Thanking you in advance for your response in faith.
Very Rev Michael J O’Connor, Pastor
