Third Friday Adoration is a 24-hour continuous exposition of the Blessed Sacrament by St. John Vianney parish. Parishioners may sign up to adore the presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. The Exposition starts at 9:00am after the daily Mass on first and third Fridays in the Day Chapel and concludes on the next day - Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. This devotion which appeals to a good number of the faithful and recommended by Pope John II & Pope Benedict XVI is usually for the reparation to God for past sins.
The devotion is also a response to Jesus' plea in the Garden of Gethsemane, to "come pray with me one hour?".
The consistent belief of the Church is that Christ is present in the Eucharist; Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. During the adoration, the faithful may meditate, read the Scriptures, read spiritual books, spend some quiet time or pray in any manner that deepens their love for God. It is customary to show reverence to the Blessed Sacrament by genuflecting on both knees, but health may prevent one from doing such a practice. Adorers are especially needed during the hours from midnight till 6:00 AM. Commitment to a specific time each month allows for more permanent and continuing program.
