NEWS
For those of you who do not know me, I will provide a word of introduction. I first came to St. John Vianney in 1998 in order to find a place to proceed through RCIA. I was received into the Catholic Church at SJV in April of 1999. I have a musical background and so it was not long before I found opportunities to accompany the choir and masses at church, something I was able to do up until the summer I left for seminary.
As a young Catholic I was not anxious to discern a vocation to the priesthood. In fact, this entire process -- of deciding to give seminary a try -- took me eight years! Finally, in 2006, I decided to give it a try. The SJV community provided tremendous help as I hosted an "estate sale" at my house in Georgetown and moved into our diocesan house of discernment in Austin, the Borromeo House. I began my studies at St. Mary's Seminary in Houston the fall of 2007.
I have had many adventures during the formation process, including a summer at the Institute of Priestly Formation in Omaha, NE; a summer studying Spanish in Costa Rica; a summer learning hospital chaplaincy (Clinical Pastoral Education) at Baptist Health Systems in San Antonio; another summer practicing Spanish at St. Francis on the Brazos in Waco; and this past summer working/learning as a deacon at St. Joseph in Bryan.
One of the great joys of seminary was my ordination to the diaconate this past May at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Cedar Park.
St. John Vianney blessed my socks off with a welcome that weekend as I was able to serve masses as new deacon and preach my first homily for the parish family. Thank you!
I am currently assigned to St. Joseph in Bryan, TX, and during the academic year, while still living at St. Mary's Seminary in Houston, I travel two weekends a month back to Bryan. This is one reason why you have not seen very much of me since May!
